Reformer Pilates & Physiotherapy Classes

Pelvic Floor | Balance | Conditioning | Core Stability | Mindfulness

Our Reformer Pilates physiotherapy groups  for men and women combine the principles of traditional Pilates exercises with the support of specialised reformer equipment and the expertise of a pelvic floor physiotherapist. We offer a holistic approach to pelvic floor health, injury prevention, and overall physical well-being. Pilates is a low-impact exercise method that focuses on improving pelvic floor strength, flexibility, and core stability. When integrated with physiotherapy, it becomes a targeted and effective approach for individuals recovering from injuries, managing chronic conditions, or seeking a mindful and therapeutic exercise regimen.

Are Reformer Pilates Physiotherapy Classes for me?

What level & intensity is the class?

Reformer groups are a low-impact exercise class using low platform Pilates reformers. It is a gentle and accessible workout suitable for individuals who are new to exercise, focused on pelvic floor health, those with joint sensitivities, pregnant women or anyone looking for a gentle conditioning option. All our exercises are modifiable, enabling you to work at the intensity level that is right for you and challenge yourself when ready. The emphasis in these classes is on promoting pelvic floor and core strength, flexibility and balance without placing excessive stress on the joints.

Do I need to see a Physiotherapist before I start?

If you are a new patient or have a new condition not seen by our physiotherapists before we encourage you to attend a 1:1 consultation prior to starting your group class. Your 1:1 consultation will include a health screening, an assessment of any pain or injuries, a real time ultrasound of your pelvic floor muscle (delivered through a sensor applied to the lower tummy) to assess and give you feedback on your pelvic floor function and core activation patterns, as well as a discussion of any modifications or considerations required during your classes.

The 1:1 consultation enables your physiotherapist to ensure you are safe doing the exercises, check you have the correct muscle activation pattern and help you understand and practice the basics of core stability prior to starting your class so that you can get the most out of the class.

What do I need to bring to classes?

Please wear comfortable clothing to exercise and stretch in. You will need your water bottle, small hand towel and some Pilates grip socks (available for purchase on request). Please bring any medications, asthma puffers or equipment you feel you need in order to exercise safely.

I am pregnant. Is it safe for me to participate in reformer classes?

In most cases, yes! It is important to stay active and exercise throughout your pregnancy. Our classes engage the pelvic floor muscles, which is proven to be beneficial to women during and after their pregnancy. Your instructor may ask you to take different positions or options during some exercises to ensure you and your baby stay safe during the class.

If you suffer from heart disease in pregnancy, restrictive lung disease in pregnancy, incompetent cervix, are at risk of premature labour, persistent second or third trimester bleeding, placenta previa, premature labour, ruptured membranes or preeclampsia, you should not participate in core stability exercise classes.

If you have a complex or high risk pregnancy, please do not hesitate to discuss it further with your instructor.

How long after childbirth should I wait before participating in reformer classes?

As every woman’s experience of pregnancy and childbirth is different, so too are our recovery times. Generally speaking, most healing has occurred in the first 6-8 weeks after childbirth, which is a good time to return to gentle, low impact exercise. Your instructor will give you plenty of direction during the class to ensure you return to exercise in a safe and nurtured way. It is never too early to start your pelvic floor exercises at home.

What if I miss a class?

If you are unable to make it to one of your classes we offer a make-up class for another session or a credit towards the following term (maximum 1 per term for the 6 week terms). Unfortunately we are unable to offer refunds for missed classes or adjust the price of the term pass.
