Day Wetting | Night Wetting (Enuresis) | Constipation | Soiling & Encopresis | Incontinence
At Calm Physiotherapy, our Paediatric and Children’s Continence Physiotherapy service offers compassionate, expert support for children experiencing bladder and bowel challenges.
We understand how continence issues can affect a child’s confidence, development, and overall well-being. Our specialised physiotherapists use evidence-based techniques in a calm, child-friendly environment to assess and treat a range of concerns, including bedwetting, daytime accidents, constipation, and toilet training difficulties.
Working closely with families, we create personalised, age-appropriate treatment plans to support each child’s progress and independence.
“Every child deserves to feel confident, comfortable, and in control — we’re here to make that journey gentle and supported.”
Frequently Asked Questions.
What kind of continence issues do you treat in children?
We help with a wide range of bladder and bowel concerns including daytime wetting, bedwetting (nocturnal enuresis), constipation, soiling (encopresis), urgency and frequency, difficulty with toilet training, and post-toilet accidents. We also support children with underlying conditions like developmental delays or sensory issues that affect continence.
Is it normal for my child to still wet the bed?
Bedwetting is common, especially in younger children, but if it continues beyond the age of 5 or causes stress, we recommend an assessment. It’s rarely due to laziness or bad habits — we focus on understanding the cause and gently guiding your child toward dry nights.
Can physiotherapy really help with toileting issues?
Yes! Continence physiotherapy uses gentle, non-invasive techniques to assess pelvic floor function, posture, bladder and bowel habits, and lifestyle factors. We teach children and parents practical strategies, exercises, and routines to support healthy toileting.
How is your approach different from a standard medical visit?
Our approach is holistic and child-centred. We take time to understand your child’s routines, physical development, and emotional wellbeing. Our sessions are calm, supportive, and designed to build trust and confidence in both the child and their caregivers. We use physiotherapy specific assessment and treatment techniques and equipment to build a program that is best tailored to your child.
What age children do you work with?
We typically support children from age 5 and up — particularly when they’re ready for or struggling with toilet training, or when continence concerns begin to affect daily life, school, or social activities.
Do you work with parents as well?
Absolutely. Parents play a vital role in the success of treatment. We provide clear guidance, reassurance, and education to help you support your child effectively at home, without pressure or blame.
Can I use Medicare, private health insurance, or NDIS for my child’s physiotherapy sessions?
Yes, we accept a range of funding options. Eligible clients can access Medicare rebates with a valid referral (such as through a Chronic Disease Management Plan). We also accept private health insurance with extras cover that includes physiotherapy. For children with an NDIS plan (self-managed or plan-managed), our services can be accessed under the appropriate support categories. If you’re unsure about your eligibility, we’re happy to guide you through the options.
