F.A.Q’s for Telehealth Physiotherapy

Which pelvic floor conditions can be treated via telehealth?

Telehealth physiotherapy can be an effective method to learn about, assess and manage pelvic floor conditions, including incontinence, prolapse, pre-natal health, pelvic pain and sexual dysfunction. Most conditions can be managed online, however some conditions may require further assessment face-to-face, which your physiotherapist can discuss with you.

How does Telehealth work?

Prior to your appointment you will receive a link via email. Simply click the link at the time of your appointment and your physiotherapist will join you in the online clinic room. You will be able to visualise your physiotherapist, models and diagrams to help you learn. Your Physiotherapist will then email you extra resources and information on how to start your assessment and mangement plan.

What do I need for a telehealth consultation?

You will require a fairly good internet connection and a computer or tablet to join the online clinic room. You will also require an email address to receive the link to the clinic room. If you would prefer to have your consultation conducted via telephone that is also an option, however it is most beneficial to be able to see your physiotherapist and the online learning tools. A secure and private space is also beneficial for telehealth consultations.

Will I have to show any body parts during my consultation?

No. Your physiotherapist will discuss your health concerns and give you options for self assessment in the comfort of your own home. Learning about your anatomy and pelvic floor function online via good verbal instructions and diagrams is an effective way to start this process.

Can I still claim on my health insurance or Medicare Chronic Disease Management plan?

Eligibility for health fund claiming for telehealth will differ between health funds, so it is best to check your eligibility prior to your appointment. We use item number codes 811 and 812 for telehealth physiotherapy. For Medicare CDM plans we use item number 93000. More information about Medicare CDM plans conducted via telehealth can be read here.
