Issues that We Commonly Treat in the Peri-Natal Period.
Birth Preparation (Vaginal Delivery or Caesarean).
Birth preparation at Calm helps you get your body ready for labour, delivery or caesarean sections. This includes learning techniques to manage pain, improving pelvic floor and core strength, and practicing breathing and relaxation strategies. We also focus on positions for labor and tips to prevent or manage issues like pelvic pain, tearing and post caesarean recovery. It’s all about feeling confident, informed, and physically prepared for your birthing experience.
Pelvic Pain & Pregnancy Related Musculoskeletal Pain.
Pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain (PGP) is discomfort or pain around the pelvic joints, hips, or lower back, caused by changes in posture, hormones, and the extra load during pregnancy. Physiotherapy can help by addressing muscle imbalances, improving joint stability, and providing exercises to reduce pain and improve mobility. Hands-on treatments, advice on posture, and support belts may also be used to help you move more comfortably throughout your pregnancy.
Incontinence.
There are various types of incontinence, including stress incontinence, which involves leakage during activities like coughing or sneezing; urge incontinence, marked by a sudden and intense urge to urinate; and overflow incontinence, where the bladder doesn’t empty properly. Causes of incontinence vary and can be related to factors such as weakened pelvic floor muscles, extra load from carrying a pregnancy, nerve damage, hormonal changes, or underlying medical conditions.
Abdominal Separation (Diastasis of Rectus Abdominis)
Diastasis of the rectus abdominis is the separation of the abdominal muscles along the midline, often caused by the growing baby during pregnancy. It can lead to a weakened core or a noticeable “bulge” in the belly. Physiotherapy can help by guiding you through safe exercises to restore core strength, improve posture, and close the gap over time.

Return to Exercise Advice & Guidance.
Physiotherapy helps guide you back to exercise safely after having a baby by focusing on restoring core and pelvic floor strength, improving posture, and addressing any pain or muscle imbalances. Your physio will create a personalized plan tailored to your recovery, starting with gentle movements and gradually building up to more intense exercises. This approach ensures you regain strength and confidence while reducing the risk of injury, pelvic floor dysfunction or setbacks.
